I have recently heard a teaching about the high priest atoning for the sins of the nation with the scapegoat. (Leviticus) A scarlet cloth was tied around the horns of the goat and the blood placed on the cloth. If the cloth turned white then the sins had been atoned for another year. If they remained red, then not. Later, in the temple the priest would tie a scarlet sash around the waist, and if the sash turned white when the blood was offered, the sins would be covered. When Yeshua gave up His life, the sashes no longer turned white. Have you heard of this traditional teaching, and if so, how can I research or find written teachings pertaining to this?
The story to which you refer comes from the Babylonian Talmud, Yoma 39b
.
Of course, it does not mention Yeshua, but relates that the cord failed to
turn 40 years before the destruction of Temple. The timing works out to be
the time of Yeshua (70 AD/CE - 40 = 30 AD/CE)
This event is mentioned in the Yom Kippur article on our web site at
